Persons can obtain their birth certificate from any county in Indiana, as long as the birth county has sent records to the State of Indiana “Drive System”. If your birth certificate is not in Drive, then you will have to order from the county you were born in.
Death
Persons can obtain a death record from any county in Indiana, as long the death record has been sent to the State of Indiana “Drive System”. Our records begin in 1882, and the open record policy is also available for Genealogy research, based upon the 75-year viewing rule. The State Department of Health Vital Records began in 1907.
Who is Eligible to Request a Record?
You must be an eligible applicant (over 18, with proof of relationship to the person named on the record) and submit a copy of your own valid photo identification (like a driver’s license w/star or a passport).

Records may be requested by mail, please go to the appropriate link below in the “news” section of Health Department. Print the request form, completely fill it out, mail in with the payment, include proper documentation to show relationship and a self-addressed stamped envelope.
